Today’s image has a little bit of everything. Parts I love, parts I hate, parts I forgot about the moment I finished with them. A background and a foreground. Lines and colors. A complete lack of proportion and consistent line weights. It is everything I dreamed it would be.
I grew up playing violin, and I always had such severe stage fright. Ulcer-level pains (that probably were ulcers) crippled me before every concert. Both of my parents play instruments (much better than I, they’ve always enjoyed it more than I have) and they always assured me that the majority of people in the world are not that musically inclined, and most will not notice minor (hurray for music puns) mistakes. I have so far found the same to be true in relation to art. On top of many not having a deeper understanding, it has become part of our culture to flip through hundreds of drawings, memes, and nudies every few minutes, so most people do not notice the finer details.

Let me draw (I can’t stop myself) your eyes towards the chair on the right. This chair alone has about 3 different perspectives molded into one. The x, y and z planes are all fighting for supremacy, and they have assured mutual destruction. An interesting point I read a while back was how our brains imprint shapes and symbols for easier identifying and retaining of the multitudes of things that our vision takes in. So I would wager many people will quickly look, and the shapes/color/symbols they see are going to say, ‘Bad version of dogs playing poker with lame pun, got it.’
It might be a little limiting, but not the worst result in the world when your drawings are as mediocre as mine. Take every advantage you can afford!
Now, I did have a little extra time to redo the chair this morning, but I decided against it for a few reasons. One was personal. The anonymity of the online world protects me from the stage fright of the past, and I like flipping the old ulcers the bird. Another was posterity and a greater since of progression seen in the drawings of tomorrow and the day after. The final one is the classic underdog story. Heck, maybe these terrible lines, curves and puns will earn me some pity points, right? Aim big, I say.
To get more serious about the quality I am brave enough to put forth, there is a very interesting quote that has stuck with me. I do not know it’s origin, but I heard it second-hand when I was learning Blender by making donuts (I am laughing thinking about non-software-savvy people imagining how one makes donuts with a blender…).
‘Imperfection is digital perfection.’
If this is what true perfection is in the modern era, I can expect a few hundred new follows a day, starting any day now! Think I have 6 followers across 7 different platforms as of yesterday, and today is two weeks in. There is no stopping this train, baby!
